Dealing with My Own Shame.

2.3.21

Journal Entry #2

My first step in attacking shame, while it’s trying to attack my identity, is to study God. Dealing with any kind of shame is not easy. It takes courage, strength, obedience, faith, and vulnerability to deal with shame. God is tugging on my heart to finally deal with this shame, but I am having trouble with diving in. So, I’ll start with studying God, and to be specific I’ll be studying what it looks like to have a reverent fear of Him.

Most people have heard the term “Fear of the Lord,” but do we truly know what that is. Fear in this context is not the fear of being terrified of something. When the Bible refers to the fear of the Lord it is referring to a reverential trust in God. It is being in awe of how Great He is.

It is important to study how great God is so that you trust Him enough that when He tells you to dive in that you jump in the deep end. Studying how much God loves you will help you understand that when He tells you to do something it is because He loves you. He loves you enough to want you healed. He loves you enough to want you set free. He loves you enough to want you to be able to move into this next season of your life with a weight lifted off of your shoulder.

Let’s start by gathering scripture that gives examples of how great God is.

Genesis 1: God is a creator. He created Heaven and Earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, the sky, the land, the animals, humans… God created us.

Just pause for a second.

Whatever time a day it is, go look outside. The way the wind blows the leaves off the trees, the way birds fly in the air, the way the moon lights the night sky, the way the sun feeds the flowers, all of that was done by God. There is no one else greater. No one else who placed us here to admire His beautiful creation. The way the waves stop and go, and how they know exactly how far to go and come back – that was thought out by God. How much greater does it get.

Remember that we are doing this together. So, I’ll end here for now so I can go outside and admire His marvelous work.

Be intentional today about taking several breaks to go outside and just bask in how great God is. Breathe in the air that He placed on the Earth just for you, and release anything that is weighing you down.

I’ll be back for more scripture reference but until next time, ask God to show you something great today – something that makes you just sit in awe of Him!

Love Always,

Alexandra
