Dealing with My Own Shame.

Journal Entry #3

In the middle of studying how mighty God is, the perfect song comes on: Famous For by Tauren Wells and Jenn Johnson. Take a look at these lyrics:

Make way through the waters

Walk me through the fire

Do what You are famous for

What You are famous for

Shut the mouths of lions

Bring dry bones to life and

Do what You are famous for

What You are famous for

Wow! I’m shook because, believe it or not, I was having trouble finding stories of God’s mighty hand on the internet. I was getting annoyed because I know the stories from the Bible, but I wanted to give you the scriptures to study with me. And BOOM… this song comes on and it all comes back to memory.

Before we go through the scripture let’s recap. It is important to study God, having a reverential fear for the Lord, and know He loves you. Knowing these things will open you and I up to trust God enough to get us through dealing with this shame. If He can do all of these mighty acts surely, He can take the shame away right?

So, what I am going to do is study my mighty God! I am going to keep studying Him until he tells me what to do next.

So, we know God is a creator! We saw that in Genesis 1. Genesis 2: 19 says that God created every beast of the field and bird in the air from the ground. Genesis is such a good place to stay in and study.

In Exodus 14:21 God parted the Red Sea so Moses and the Israelites could walk through. Take a second and just imagine a huge body of water in front of you. Now imagine God parting it open so you can walk through. Take another second and re-imagine that body of water is filled with your shame and its blocking you from being free. Now imagine God parting that shame-filled sea and telling you to walk through it to freedom. You all, we are allowing ourselves to be slaves to shame and it’s time to make our way through the water.

In Daniel 6:19-22 God shut the mouths of lions. Daniel was put in the lion’s den because it was against the law to pray to God and Daniel did it anyway. The king put Daniel in the lion’s den to be eaten BUT GOD… God shut the mouths of the lions. Ok it’s imagination time again. Imagine your shame is surrounding you right now. Your shame is starring you in the face. Your shame tries to attack you like lions getting ready to attack their prey, but God shut’s their mouths.

In Daniel 3:16-28 God saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from burning up in the fiery furnace. Nebuchadnezzar threw them into the fire, but the Bible says not a hair on their heads burned. It also says they didn’t even smell of fire. WOW! If you trust God, you will come out of what seems like fire not even smelling like the shame you once bore.

These are just a few examples of things God is famous for, but I encourage you to look for more in the Bible because there is so much more. God is so powerful! Hebrews 4:12 says His Word is UNSTOPABLE. 1 Peter 1:25 says God’s Word is everlasting. God is strong and mighty and way bigger than shame or what people think. Marinate on that for a second…God is bigger. His Word proves it and His works in our lives prove it.

Let’s stay here for a little bit. Let’s take these next few days and meditate on how mighty God is. Then we’ll take a look at His love for us.

Prayer: “God, open my eyes to see your Mighty Hand. Lord, remind me of ways you have performed mighty works in my life.”
